Ein Essay von Don Zagier über die Schönheit der Mathematik

MaxPlanckForschung 04/11, S. 12-17

Agnes Handwerk and Harrie Willems have made a remarkable documentary about the life and work of Yuri Manin, Emeritus Director at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, who began his career as a student at Moscow State University in the year of Stalin's death 1953 and whose subsequent professional life reflects the history of mathematics and mathematicians trying to overcome the political constraints of that time.

The film will be shown for the first time in Bonn, prior to its publication by Springer in 2012. The directors of the film will be present and available for questions and discussion after the screening.

Graeme Segal is the speaker of the Felix Klein Lectures 2011 organized by the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics. Upon popular demand, the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics is producing video recordings of each of his six lectures on "Three roles of quantum field theory".

We are offering the lectures in three different formats (flv, mp4 and webm), so there is a chance that you can watch the videos on your favorite operating system with your favorite browser. Since these are the first videos on our new website everything is still a bit experimental...
