Kähler manifolds, rigidity, and finite quotients

I will give an overview of profinite rigidity of finitely generated residually finite groups and allude to its connections with algebraic topology and geometry.  I will then discuss a recent result on determining certain Kähler manifolds by their algebraic fundamental groups.
