Introduced by Morrison, Walker, and Wedrich, skein lasagna modules are invariants of four-manifolds with boundary built from link homology theories. A landmark recent result of Ren and Willis showed that these invariants can detect exotic smooth structures on four-manifolds with boundary. This expository talk will introduce some of the key ideas behind the construction and its applications.
Some familiarity with Khovanov homology will be useful, though most of the core ideas will be presented in a way that is accessible without it.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Classical quantum topology studies polynomial invariants of links arising from the representation of quantum groups — in particular, the sln-Jones polynomial, associated to quantum sln. Around 2000, it was realized that some of these polynomial invariants generalize (“categorify”) to homological invariants — in particular, Khovanov–Rozansky homology categorifying the sln-Jones polynomial. This talk is about the homological algebra of a class of associative algebras which are often called "diagrammatic". I'll try to give an overview which is approachable regardless of whether you are in rep theory, homotopy theory, or knot theory. First I'll describe how people got interested in these questions: roughly speaking, they were interested in a phenomenon called homological stability, and wanted to know whether it can be done for algebras. I'll try to give an overview of how those results go for the most studied examples: Temperley--Lieb, Brauer, and partition algebras.

The orbifold construction is a procedure that constructs new TQFTs from old ones given a particular algebraic input. I will review aspects of the construction and then I will present a framework that algorithmically generates such algebraic data called bistellar data, which are closely related to generalized orbifold data. The benefit of the framework is that it gives an immediate description of the algebraic data in any dimension, as well as a description of bistellar bimodules and all further higher cells.
