The phylogenetic semigroup on a graph is a subset of the set of all labelings of the edges of the graph by nonnegative integers. In this talk, I will give the exact definition and review some results about minimal generators of phylogenetic semigroups by Buczyńska, Buczyński, Michałek, Wiśniewski, and myself.

Real enumerative geometry in R^n with smooth tangency constrains

In the talk we shall describe a point of view on real enumerative
geometry, which links real algebraic geometry and smooth topology.
In particular, we ask to count real algebraic varieties in R^n that pass
through a generic configuration of real points P and are tangent to a
given collection of generically immersed submanifolds X of R^n.

The rational double Hurwitz number H_0(x) counts covers of the projective line by genus 0 curves with a given ramification profile over 0 and infinity. Hurwitz cycles H_k(x) are a higher-dimensional generalization of this: They are loci of marked rational curves admitting a cover of P^1 with given ramification profile over 0 and infinity and simple ramification over the marked points.

Amoebas are defined as images of sub-varieties of the algebraic torus under the coordinate-wise logarithmic map. The natural habitat of an amoeba in this case is the ordinary Euclidean space. We consider an analog of the logarithmic map for which amoebas live in the hyperbolic 3-space. I will describe the main similarities and differences between the usual and hyperbolic (co)amoebas.
