Configuration Spaces, Discriminant Varieties, and their Automorphism Groups

We introduce the notion of a tight cylinder over an affine variety and show the effect of tightness on the automorphism group. We present various criteria of tightness, give examples of tight cylinders (configuration spaces, discriminant varieties), and describe their automorphism groups. The talk is based on a joint work with Vladimir Lin (Technion, Haifa).
