The equation $C_d: x^2 - dy^2 = -1$ is known as the negative Pell equation. It is an outstanding problem to give an asymptotic for the number of squarefree integers $d$ for which $C_d$ is soluble in integers $x$ and $y$. In this talk I will discuss some recent progress towards this problem. Parts of this talk are joint work with Stephanie Chan, Djorjdo Milovic and Carlo Pagano.
