Birkhoff sections of flows in dimension 3

Birkhoff sections are a type of transverse surfaces to a flow which give information on the topology and the dynamic of the flow. They have been particularly useful to study Anosov flows in dimension 3. I will present some constructions of Birkhoff sections and explain that they are classified by their relative homology.
