When do short loops only bound big surfaces?

Stable commutator length is a filling function that measures the complexity of nullhomologous loops using the surfaces they bound. I will discuss how stable commutator length relates to geometric length in hyperbolic manifolds and discuss ways to control the size of stable commutator length.
