I have two goals for the talk. The first goal is to give an introduction to the curvature condition PIC1, accessible to people who know nothing about it. PIC1 is a little stronger than positive Ricci curvature (or the same in 3D) but is more natural for a wide variety of applications. The second goal is to give some insight into what Ricci flow can tell us about PIC1 manifolds. In particular, I will describe some current developments in Ricci flow theory on noncompact underlying manifolds, and explain how they are used. Joint work with ManChun Lee (CUHK).
