Short introductory lectures.
The study of (relative) profinite rigidity has regained popularity within geometric group theory over the past decade. In this short talk I will mention a few long-standing questions in the field, and sketch why I believe that (partial) answers can be obtained by constructing surface subgroups admitting prescribed properties.
