Bounded generation of Chevalley groups in the function field case [Note the change of time!]

We shall discuss the problem of bounded generation of Chevalley groups with respect to elementary unipotents or commutators in the case where the base ring is Dedekind of arithmetic type. The new results were obtained in the case where the base ring is the ring of polynomials or Laurent polynomials over a finite field. In the talk, the focus is on arithmetic ingredients of the proof and on arithmetic problems arising in eventual generalizations.
