Minimal discs in metric spaces

In the talk I will discuss applications of the solution of the classical Plateau problem in metric spaces to Alexandrov  spaces with upper curvature bounds and to parametrization of surfaces, based on a joint work with Stefan Wenger.  I will mention potential applications  to the  theory of spaces with Ricci curvature bounds.
