The talk will be about "Limiting Forms of the Trace Formula", a method proposed by Langlands and first carried out in a nontrivial case by Venkatesh.

We will start with an explaination of the method and the motivation behind it before focusing on an application, namely the proof of a Converse theorem for modular forms over totally real number field.
