Singular moduli, that is, j-invariants of elliptic curves over C with complex multiplication, have been studied since the end of the XIX century because of their many important number theoretical properties. However, many basic problems concerning these numbers are still open or have found a partial answer only in recent years. For instance: given a set S of rational primes, how many singular moduli are S-units in the ring of algebraic integers? In this talk we will discuss this and related questions.
