Characters of local systems

This is a follow-up of my talk on traces and categorification. I will explain in more detail how one defines characters of local systems on topological spaces, spell out the induced character formula in this setting, and describe how one may deduce a formula for the Becker-Gottlieb transfer of a fibration of spaces.
