Impossibility results in Dynamical Systems

Impossibility results are well known in areas such as algebra (Galois Theory), and the negative solution to Hilbert's 10th problem. Recent work shows much stronger impossibility results for classical problems in dynamical systems such as von Neumann's program and Smale's program. The techniques used also provide extensive information for internal results in smooth ergodic theory.
