The Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize is an annual prize for outstanding women mathematicians who have recently completed their PhD. It consists of a monetary award of $50,000. The prize was awarded together with the Breakthrough Prize 2025 at a red carpet gala ceremony in Los Angeles on April 5th 2025, and has as founding sponsors Sergey Brin, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, Julia and Yuri Milner, and Anne Wojcicki. Rajula Srivastava received her award from Drew Barrymore and Ke Huy Quan.
Rajula Srivastava is a Hirzebruch Research Instructor, and hence a scientist at both the Mathematical Institute of the University of Bonn and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics (MPIM) in Bonn. Her research is at the intersection of harmonic analysis and number theory. Her results on bounding the number of lattice points existing near a given smooth surface have important application to Diophantine approximation in higher dimensions. In the autumn she is going to return to her Alma Mater, University of Wisconsin–Madison, as a tenure-track assistant professor. The 2025 Breakthrough Prize Ceremony will premiere on Breakthrough’s YouTube page on Saturday, April 12 at 9:00 PM CEST.
