Infinite-type translation surfaces in the wild

We illustrate with several examples how infinite-type translation surfaces are related to billiards, bakery and wind-tree models.
The main goal of this talk is to give a general panorama of the area to non-experts (and do shameless advertising for a 2-week minicourse that I'll give with Vincent Delecroix about infinite-type translation surfaces in May 06-07 & May 13-14 at the MPIM).
