In 2000 Itai Benjamini and Oded Schramm introduced a notion of distributional limits for finite graphs.
More recently, their construction could be generalized and found interesting applications in other areas of
mathematics including Dynamical Systems, Group Theory and Geometry.

The goal of this talk is to introduce the Benjamini—Schramm construction and present some of its applications
beyond Graph Theory. In particular, we will see how it can be used to compactify the moduli space of finite-area
hyperbolic surfaces.
