Geometry and Topology Seminar M. Farber introduced a numerical invariant TC(X) for measuring the navigational complexity of a topological space X. He was motivated by robot motion planning. The invariant TC(X) is in spirit of the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category cat(X). We will discuss how these invariants depend on the fundamental group.
