There is a fascinating parallel between curves on a surface and objects in a triangulated category. This parallel allows us to transfer intuition, techniques, and theorems between the two seemingly distant worlds. I will explain a construction (joint with Asilata Bapat and Tony Licata) of the space of Bridgeland stability conditions on a suitable triangulated category, motivated by the Thurston compactification of the Teichmuller space.
